A Prayer for Father’s Day

CANOES (2)Gracious Father,

You are the Father we long for and need. You have shown your love and grace to us through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him we have access to you as our Father. By your Spirit which dwells within us, we cry, “Abba! Father!” Oh what joy it is to be adopted into your family and to be called sons and daughters! Wherever we may find ourselves on this Father’s Day, we turn our eyes to you our Heavenly Father.

To those who are fathers
May they reflect your character in their words and ways

To those who wish they were fathers
May they find their identity as your child

To those who have failed as fathers
May they know your grace that restores and reconciles

To those without earthly fathers
May they come to know you as the Father to the fatherless

To those with adopted fathers
May the rejoice in the glimpse of your kindness they have seen

To those who have been hurt by their earthly fathers
May they rest in your faithful love and care

To those with absent fathers
May they feel the nearness of your presence and provision

To those with good fathers
May they rejoice all the more in you as their heavenly Father

To those who know you as heavenly Father
May they delight themselves in you and the privilege of being your child

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. – Galatians 4:4-7
